U zult tijdens de Masterclass ervaren dat zowel verbale als non- verbale signalen, die we uitzenden vaak ‘vervuild’ zijn. Door u in de gedachtegang  van grote redenaars te verplaatsen, zult u merken hoe groot de slagkracht en overtuiging van woorden kan zijn. Tijdens de Masterclass passen we deze slagkracht en overtuigingskracht toe in uw eigen manier van communiceren. Hierdoor zult u verandering merken tijdens toespraken, het voorzitten van vergaderingen en het geven van presentatie. Daarbij in eerste instantie geen oefening aan de hand van uw dagelijkse praktijk maar aan de hand van passages uit beroemde toneelstukken. De technieken en inzichten uit het toneelvak worden ingezet om vaardiger, rustiger, meer ontspannen en meer zelfverzekerd, en dus effectiever om te gaan in communicatie met anderen.

The Hague Summer School is a cutting edge 2 or 4 week modular course that runs in the month of July. The course, is made up of elective modules, that look at connecting the private and public sector through the eyes of engineers, human rights and security professionals and entrepreneurs. Our host city, The Hague, is the United Nations City of Peace, Justice and Security with its 131 international institutions, 80 justice organisations, 300 international businesses and numerous NGOs - the perfect place to see various sectors at work.

The academic program

The Hague Summer School is a modular course. You can choose to study for a two week or four week period. The two-week summer course consists of a module of your choice for 4 ECTS. The four week summer course offers you the possibility to choose 2 courses. Each elective includes organisational visits and guest lectures. Our academic staff is responsible for the content of the program and where we have partners in the field we co create with them. So you will meet not only our professors but also people from professionals from our Government and businesses in the region. Theme

Each year, we focus on  ‘Wicked Problems’ this year all modules are linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.  Students work on projects around the topic of the course. Topics vary from Gender Equality and Inclusive Learning to Human Rights and Entrepreneurship.

Social Program

As new friendships are a foundation for new and fruitful cooperation in the future, The Hague Summer School is not just about studying. We know that you are also here to make meet people and have fun! During the evenings and on the weekends we offer an extensive social and cultural program. Activities like the ‘Potluck Dinner, ‘Game Night’, ‘Treasure Hunts’ and off course ‘Dutch Nights’ are organized.

Costs and Housing

The fee for The Hague Summer School is 1250 euro per two weeks, this includes the course, lunches, social programme and fieldtrips. We strongly recommend to make use of our housing offer in The Student Hotel, a high end hotel for international students, just 5 minutes away from our University, which costs only 500 euro per two weeks extra

Human Security, rights and development

The Hague, City of International City of Peace, Justice and Security, boasts around 131 international institutes and 80 justice organizations and together with New York, Geneva and Vienna is one of the United Nations cities. Since 1913, the Peace Palace has been a centre of world justice, hosting the permanent Court of Arbitrations and the International Court of Justice. You'll also find, Oxfam International and OPCW, along with many other courts, tribunals and NGOs.

In this module students will be introduced to modern security challenges involving border disputes and questions of energy security, as well as the socio-economic development agenda of countries and population groups that have been suffering grave injustices and poverty.

While getting acquainted with some general (legal) theory and cases, students will experience how to work in reality with international issues through visits to the International Court of Justice, development cooperation organizations and institutions which encourage democratization. The program is both academic and practical (action-oriented) .

Examples of the lectures offered: the role of UNCLOS in resolving maritime disputes, questions of energy security in the Eastern Mediterranean, the role of the UN and NATO in global peace, the status of environmental refugees as well as questions of terrorism. The workshops are called Migration across the Mediterranean and Sustainable Development goals.

A the end of this module students will be challenged to build an integrated approach on how to achieve synergy of peace operations, state-formation, poverty reduction.

De Connective Leadership Theory van Jean Lipman Blumen laat zien hoe connective leaders verschillende mensen samenbrengen en dat overeenkomsten de basis vormen van succes en goede prestaties.

In het programma wordt nader ingegaan op de toepassing van dit denken en werken. Wat betekent Connective Leadership voor de toekomst van bedrijven en overheden op lokaal, regionaal, nationaal en Europees niveau? En wat betekent Connective Leadership in jouw eigen werk?

 

Jouw praktijk staat centraal

Aan de hand van een uitgebreide vragenlijst, nl.: Connective Leadership Inventory, word je uitgenodigd om op je eigen ervaringen te reflecteren. Tijdens het 3-daagse programma is er veel gelegenheid concrete kwesties in te brengen en in groepen door te spreken.  Actuele voorbeelden van connective leaders uit Nederland en uit Europa nemen we onder de loep. Daarbij komen theorie en praktijk samen.

 

Wat kun je verwachten?

Je vertrekpunt is een tweetal assessments, nl.: Connective Leadership Individual (ASI) en Aspirational individual Inventory (A-ASI), waarmee je je huidige en je wenselijke gedrag in kaart brengt. Wat kun jij doen om verbinding te maken? Het assessment geeft inzicht in waar je nu staat en waar je heen zou willen gaan. Aan de hand van je resultaten ga je individueel en in groepsverband in op je persoonlijke leiderschap en hoe je je leiderschap kunt verbeteren. In het programma is ook ruimte voor individuele coaching. Tijdens het 3-daagse programma werk je daarmee gericht aan een verbindende leiderschapsstijl. Je leert vaardigheden aan waar je de rest van je leven je voordeel mee zult doen!

 

Wat levert het programma je op?

  • Herken welk gedrag je op dit moment toepast om je doelen te bereiken;
  • Leer andere gedragsstrategieën om je doelen te bereiken, en pas deze toe;
  • Los conflicten op door gedrag van anderen te doorgronden en je eigen gedrag aan te passen.

Ninth Annual Training Programme Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass DestructionDetails

In August 2010, the TMC Asser Institute and the OPCW launched the first summer Program on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction ("WMD Summer Program"). In its first years the program has established itself as a highly educated educational resource for advanced graduate students and early-to-mid-career professionals with interests in WMD diplomacy and treaty implementation. The WMD training program continuously evolves and discusses cross-cutting aspects in high-level panels and now introduces more interactive elements such as a debate and simulation exercise.

Program
During this intensive week, participants will be provided with a comprehensive overview of non-proliferation and disarmament efforts regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction. The program content is delivered by renowned experts and diplomats in the fields of international law, security and related disciplines. The interactive sessions are complementary to a nuclear reactor and a chemical weapons research laboratory. What will you gain?

  • Hands-on knowledge of the diplomatic, legal and technical aspects of disarmament and non-proliferation;
  • Insight into the work or key professionals in the area of ​​WMD, seasoned with their personal experiences; and

Verdiepingsleergang Terrorisme, recht en veiligheidDetails

In deze leergang gaat u op zoek naar de verbindingen en grenzen in informatiedeling en samenwerking. U krijgt een overzicht van rollen, culturen, bevoegdheden en belangen van verschillende organisaties en gaat in op vragen als: hoe raken bepaalde interventies en maatregelen anderen? En op welke manier passen deze in het grotere veiligheidsdoel dat u gezamenlijk heeft?

In een groep van maximaal 15 deelnemers behandelt u twee cases  (radicalisering en netwerkaanpak) waarbij u vanuit verschillende rollen een gezamenlijke opdracht vervult.

De eerste twee dagen schuift u aan bij een casusoverleg. De derde en vierde dag verschuift de aandacht van individu naar netwerk en denkt u na over mogelijke interventies daarin.
